Lake Lure covers 720 acres in the Hickory Nut Gorge, a valley in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Western North Carolina.

National Geographic says that Lake Lure is perhaps the most beautiful man made lake in the world, with over 720 acres of sparkling, crystal clear blue water, three long bays, an island, and a background of tree clad hills and mountains, along its 21 miles of scenic shoreline.

Several movies have been filmed here such as "Dirty Dancing", "Firestarter", "Last of the Mohicans", "My Fellow Americans" and several other movies as well. Lake Lure is also home to the 2006 HGTV Dream Home.
